Useful thinking on mission, purpose, values statements

A while ago I wrote a couple of blog posts on this above topic, here, and here.

Here’s also a recent presentation on company mission, vision, purpose and values,

Now this post caught my eye:

What The Hell is Wrong with… Mission and Vision Statements?

Not only does the author point out some bad examples (Volvo), he points to some good ones too.

Here’s a few:

  • eBay: ”At eBay, our mission is to provide a global online
marketplace where practically anyone can trade practically anything,
enabling economic opportunity around the world.”
  • Google: “Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
  • Walt Disney: “We create happiness by providing the finest in entertainment
for people of all ages, everywhere.”

You can read the others here. Worth a couple of minutes. This stuff really does matter.

This is also an area we cover in detail, in our online training course on CR management, which starts again next month. More details are here.
