New human rights guidance out yesterday: Useful resources for business

Yesterday the European Commission published three sector guides to implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights for business.

They’ve been put together by Shift and the Institute for Human Rights and Business, two respected and leading research/”Think and do” NGOs in the field of business and human rights.

The guides are for employment and recruitment agencies, ICT companies, and oil and gas companies.

There’s undoubtedly a lot to learn for any business from these.

On first glance they look useful, particularly for companies new to the space. For example, p.28 of the Oil & Gas report offers useful steps to assess human rights impacts. That’s available here.

Likewise, p.42 of the ICT report contains a list of the kind of questions a responsibly-minded company needs to ask internally and debate.
