We’ve covered the issue of forced child labour in Uzbek cotton for years.
The brand boycott, after the BBC Newsnight programme investigation a couple of years ago (which we helped them with), seemed to indicate some interest in stamping this out by companies.
But this podcast (which we taped last week) shows that progress is slow.
Aside from the political issues, tracing of cotton back to where it came from is only in its infancy.
It’s part of the biggest trend in supply chains for the next decade, in my view.
This is transparency, verification, and the general tracking and tracing things back to where they came from originally.
Followed quickly by what to do about ethics/sustainability problems, should they be found and need to be dealt with.
