I’m a big fan of Nick Davies’ book Flat Earth News.
It’s a book that shows you just how poor our news gathering has become globally.
More importantly, it demonstrates how false stories move easily into the public lexicon.
Worth £8.99 of anyone’s money.
Here’s a classic story about the so called dangers of exploding Ipods that has great and damaging potential to become Flat Earth News. i.e. untrue and widely spread.
The book is great, and worrying summer reading.
If you want your company to help contribute to fixing this sorry state of media affairs, then find a way to help support rigourous independent media that checks what it writes.
(Disclaimer: I happen to try and run one of those, so I should disclose that here!)
