BBC on how Chinese NGOs struggle

Regular readers of Ethical Corporation (and listeners to our podcasts) will know that we have flagged up the various issues, bureaucratic blockages, public wariness and downright government political hostility to charities in China fairly regularly – particularly since so many of these issues became more mainstream in the wake of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake.

We’ve also discussed the problems and possible contradictions around the rise of wealthy philanthropists in China, their motives and links to the government.

Interesting to see then that the BBC is now also reporting these problems – better late than never…

(Last year’s China briefing, which covers many of these issues in detail, can be found here as a free download for blog readers)
